About The Film
It is 2006, and Chris Hansen is the host of To Catch a Predator, a television series that stages confrontations with adults who arrange to meet people they believe are minors. Hansen sees the show as more than a hit segment.
He wants it to become a major television event, and he is determined to take it to the biggest stage the network has. As the show grows in popularity, so do the pressures behind the scenes. Hansen, his crew, and the network executives find themselves balancing the goal of exposing wrongdoing against the demand for ratings, and the line between serious investigation and spectacle starts to blur.
Along the way, the film follows Hansen’s ambition and how it affects his work, his relationships, and the people around him. Told in a tense, darkly comic tone, the film is a period drama about the early days of reality television and the choices made in pursuit of a bigger audience.
