About The Film

Mahabahu – The Brahmaputra follows a scientific expedition as it journeys down the mighty Brahmaputra River, tracing the course of its unpredictable currents while confronting the challenges the river presents at every turn.

Pranjal Pratim Chetia, who also directs the film, plays the lead role, with Preety Kongona as the female lead opposite him. As the expedition moves forward, the story weaves in the lives of the communities living along the Brahmaputra’s banks, particularly around Sivasagar, capturing how deeply their existence is tied to the river’s moods.

Alongside this journey, the film brings in the harsh reality of floods, showing how the same river that sustains life along its course can also bring devastation to the people who depend on it.

Rather than following a conventional plot driven structure, the film is built around the relationship between people and the river itself, portraying the Brahmaputra as both a source of identity and an unforgiving force of nature.

Carrying strong cultural ties to Assamese icon Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the film blends the expedition’s journey with the everyday struggles of those who call the riverbanks home, without revealing how the expedition or the communities’ stories ultimately unfold.
