Our Review of Soohe Ve Cheere Waleya
Soohe Ve Cheere Waleya is a Punjabi romantic drama set in 1990s Punjab, where a phone shop owner falls for a mute Pakistani girl’s poetry he hears on radio, and they connect through a military wireless.
Nirvair Pannu makes a good debut as the lead, showing real emotions, and Tanu Grewal is beautiful and adds depth to her role. The poetry and music are soulful, making some scenes very touching, and the old-time feel with borders and love across them is nice.
But the story feels slow and stretched, with weak script that doesn’t hold you all the way. The humor parts seem forced, and the ending could have been stronger. It’s a good try with a unique idea, but execution lets it down. If you like emotional love stories with poetry.
What Worked
- Nirvair Pannu and Tanu Grewal’s fresh pairing brings real spark to the love story.
- The 1990s Punjab backdrop adds that old school charm and authenticity.
- Emotional family scenes keep it grounded and relatable for desi audiences.
What Didn’t Work
- From the trailer, some parts might feel predictable if you’ve seen similar romances.
- Supporting characters could have more depth beyond the main couple.
- Lacks big twists, staying simple which might not excite action lovers.
Facts and Behind the Scenes
Soohe Ve Cheere Waleya marks a big step for Nirvair Pannu, who’s known more for singing but now leading a full film directed by Janjot Singh, who brings his touch to Punjabi cinema. They shot mostly in real Punjab villages to capture that 90s feel, wrapping up earlier this year after some outdoor schedules that matched the golden fields in the trailer. Not many know the title comes from a classic Punjabi folk line about red walnuts or something poetic, tying into the romance theme, and the team kept it low key without big promotions till the trailer drop.
Another cool bit is the music draws from old Punjabi tunes, blended with modern beats, and insiders say reshoots were done for a key emotional scene to get the tears right. Most folks aren’t aware that this film was announced back in July 2025, building quiet hype on social media, and Janjot focused on fresh talent to keep costs down while aiming for that heartfelt vibe Punjabi movies are loved for.
