Our Review

The Dark Side is a courtroom drama-thriller directed by Sailesh Bhambhani. The story revolves around a struggling actress who accuses a celebrated superstar of sexual harassment, leading to a tense courtroom battle. As the trial progresses, it exposes the hidden realities of fame, ambition, and power, while constantly blurring the line between truth and deception.

The film attempts to tackle a sensitive and relevant subject within Gujarati cinema, which is relatively rare. While the premise has the potential to spark discussion, the success of such bold subjects usually depends on strong writing, powerful performances, and sensitive handling of the theme. At the box office, The Dark Side has opened to extremely poor collections.

The numbers are very low even for a small Gujarati release, which clearly shows that the film has failed to generate any excitement among audiences. With such a weak opening, the movie is already in a very difficult position. Courtroom dramas and bold subjects in regional cinema usually need strong word of mouth and critical appreciation to survive beyond the first weekend.

However, given the current collections, it seems highly unlikely that The Dark Side will see any significant improvement over the weekend. Unless the content turns out to be exceptionally gripping and creates organic discussion, the film is likely to disappear from theatres very quickly. For a low-budget Gujarati production, such a poor theatrical run means the makers will have to depend entirely on digital rights to recover their investment.
