About The Film
The Musical follows Doug Leibowitz, a frustrated playwright who has ended up teaching middle school theater instead of chasing his creative ambitions in New York. When Doug discovers his ex-girlfriend has started dating his nemesis, the school principal, his simmering resentment sets off a chain reaction.
With his sights set on sabotaging the principal’s shot at a prestigious academic honor, Doug hatches an increasingly reckless scheme centered on the school’s musical, using the production as a vehicle for his own personal vendetta.
As his plan spirals further out of control, the film digs into themes of spite, ambition, and unresolved bitterness, following what happens when someone lets long-simmering resentment take the wheel. It’s a dark comedy about the messy, sometimes destructive ways people react when their own dreams feel out of reach.
