About The Film

Set in 1986 Madras, Baththa follows a feared local gangster, played by Vijay Sethupathi, whose reputation makes him someone the entire neighbourhood is wary of. His tightly controlled world is upended in the most unexpected way, when a timid eight year old boy accidentally traps him inside a deserted school toilet.

Stripped of his usual power and authority, the gangster is forced to confront hunger, isolation and a vulnerability he has likely never experienced before. As the hours pass, an unlikely bond begins to form between the hardened man and the frightened boy, each slowly seeing the other in a way they never expected to.

What begins as an accident gradually turns into a relationship that neither of them could have predicted, one that starts to chip away at the walls the gangster has built around himself over the years. Without revealing how their unusual friendship develops or how it ultimately changes the course of their lives, Baththa follows this unexpected pairing as it reshapes both the feared man and the innocent boy who crossed his path.
