Our Review
Valluvan is a social action thriller that attempts to combine crime investigation with deeper social commentary. The story follows investigators as they chase a killer behind a string of high-profile murders, only to uncover a dark and painful secret from the past that connects all the victims. Directed and written by Shankar Sarathi, the film aims to balance suspense and action with emotional and social elements.
While the premise has potential for a gripping narrative, early indicators suggest it is a mid-scale production that will need strong content delivery to stand out in a crowded market. For audiences who enjoy thrillers with a social message, it may offer some engagement if the mystery and action sequences are well executed. At the box office, Valluvan has opened to very poor collections on its first day.
Advance bookings were minimal, and theatre occupancy remained extremely low across Tamil Nadu. Social media updates from exhibitors and audiences showed little excitement, with many shows running at very poor capacity. The film has struggled to create any significant buzz despite being part of the June 12 release slate. Given the current trends, its theatrical prospects look challenging unless it manages to generate exceptional word-of-mouth through strong reviews.
For a small-scale action thriller, this kind of opening is disappointing and suggests a very short run in theatres. The film’s better chances likely lie on digital platforms later, where it may find some audience if the content connects. For now, it has made a very quiet and weak start.
