Chaali Din is a Punjabi movie, released on 19 June 2026 starring Gurpreet Ghuggi, Debi Makhsoospuri and Nirmal Rishi. The adventure drama Chaali Din opened to a modest response at the Indian box office.

A Punjabi film directed by Tarnvir Singh Jagpal and adapted from a bestselling novel, it follows a character’s spiritual journey intertwined with a mystical Fakir during a 40-day pilgrimage. The film received limited theatrical exposure and generated moderate initial interest mainly in Punjab and among the Punjabi diaspora.

On the worldwide front, Chaali Din registered limited overseas collections, primarily from the Punjabi community in Canada, the UK, and Australia. The film’s niche spiritual and adventure theme helped it find some audience abroad, but the overall international performance remained modest compared to bigger Punjabi releases.

Our Review

Chaali Din is a sincere attempt to adapt Dr. Gurpreet Singh Dhugga’s novel onto the big screen. The story revolves around a young boy’s 40-day spiritual and emotional journey with a Fakir, touching upon themes of self-realisation, love, and separation. While the subject has potential, the film has failed to generate strong interest among audiences in its opening phase.

The lack of mass appeal and limited marketing push appears to have affected its initial turnout. At the box office, Chaali Din has opened very weakly. The collections are quite low, which is a worrying sign for a film that was expected to attract at least family and content-loving audiences.

The overseas markets have performed slightly better than India, but even there the numbers are not impressive. With such a slow start, the film will need exceptional word of mouth to survive in theatres. At this rate, recovering its budget theatrically looks very difficult. It may have to rely heavily on its digital rights to cut losses.
