DSP Dev 2 Collection | Budget | OTT | Hit/Flop

DSP Dev 2 is a Punjabi action-drama, released on 13 February 2026 starring Dev Kharoud, Shruti Sodhi, and Aditi Arya. A sequel to the 2019 hit DSP Dev, the film sees Dev Kharoud reprising his role as the rugged cop Sher Singh Gill, this time seeking redemption by busting a massive black money racket. The film opened with a moderate buzz across the North Indian circuit, specifically in Punjab, Chandigarh, and Delhi.

Despite being a major Pollywood sequel, it faced stiff competition from the nationwide Bollywood release O Romeo, leading to a low initial occupancy of around 5.21% on its opening Friday. On Day 1, DSP Dev 2 earned approximately ₹0.15 crore net in the Indian market, with a gross collection of ₹0.18 crore. The film saw its strongest performance in the Amritsar and Ludhiana regions, where night show occupancy touched nearly 18%.

Worldwide, the film’s opening day gross reached ₹0.18 crore, as its international release in markets like Australia and New Zealand was limited to select screens. As today is Saturday (Valentine’s Day), the film is seeing a slight uptick in urban centers, but it needs a significant surge on Sunday to maintain its sequel momentum.

Our Review

DSP Dev 2 is exactly what fans of Dev Kharoud expect: a gritty, high-stakes actioner that leans heavily on the “angry honest cop” trope. Director Mandeep Benipal, who also helmed the first installment, maintains the dark and intense atmosphere of the original. Dev Kharoud is in top form, delivering his lines with a bone-chilling intensity that has become his trademark.

The sequel takes a darker turn than the first, shifting the focus from petty criminals to a sinister racket involving women and children, which adds a layer of emotional weight to the action. However, the film suffers from “sequel syndrome.” While the action choreography is a step up, the plot feels somewhat derivative of several other cop dramas we’ve seen in recent years.

Shruti Sodhi and Aditi Arya provide solid support, but their characters are unfortunately underwritten, serving mostly as catalysts for Dev’s rage. The 144-minute runtime also feels slightly bloated, with a middle act that drags as it tries to tie too many investigative threads together.

When compared to recent Punjabi action hits like Dakuaan Da Munda 2, DSP Dev 2 feels a bit more “formulaic,” though it will certainly satisfy the core audience looking for Dev’s signature style. From a box office perspective, the film has a steep hill to climb.

The ₹15 lakh opening is quite low for a franchise of this scale, likely due to the lack of “chartbuster” music and the heavy competition this week. Its success will now depend entirely on its “legs” in the Punjab heartland over the next two weeks. For fans of hard-hitting Pollywood action, it’s a solid one-time watch, but it lacks the “X-factor” that made the first film a breakout success.
