About The Film

Hot Spot is a 2026 science fiction thriller directed by Agnieszka Smoczyńska. The screenplay was written by Robert Bolesto. The film is a Polish Greek co-production from Madants and partners, with Focus Features handling distribution in North America.

The story is set in a near-future society governed by a powerful sentient artificial intelligence known as The Head. Most people are connected to this system for survival.

A private detective is assigned to investigate a murder that occurs within a community of refugees who resist joining the digital network. As the investigation progresses, he encounters a rebel figure who may hold the key to challenging the system.

The case begins to affect the detective’s sense of identity, his personal life and his understanding of the world around him. Andrzej Konopka plays the detective. Noomi Rapace appears as Rana, a key figure among the refugees.

Reika Kirishima plays the detective’s wife. Supporting roles include Filippa Kaye, George Aurimas Cris and others. The film runs 101 minutes and is rated R for strong violent content, gore, graphic nudity, sexual content and brief language.

It premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival before its limited theatrical release in the United States.
