About The Film
Tony is a biographical drama based on the early life of Anthony Bourdain. The film follows Bourdain at the age of 19 when he travels to Provincetown and begins working in a restaurant kitchen.
The story focuses on the experiences that help shape his approach to food, cooking and life before he became a well known chef, author and television personality. Dominic Sessa plays the young Anthony Bourdain.
Emilia Jones appears as Nancy, while Leo Woodall plays Sal. Antonio Banderas and Stavros Halkias are also part of the main cast. The film is directed by Matt Johnson, who also worked on the screenplay with Matthew Miller, Todd Bartels and Lou Howe.
The story takes place mainly during Bourdain’s formative period in Provincetown and focuses on his experiences inside a professional restaurant environment. Rather than covering his entire career, the film concentrates on an earlier chapter of his life and the people he encounters during that period.
Tony began its U.S. theatrical release on August 7, 2026, in a limited number of theatres. A24 has scheduled the movie for a wider U.S. theatrical release on August 21, 2026.
