Bollywood’s ‘Dhurandhar’ Vs Hollywood’s ‘Avatar 3’ in India
New Delhi, India – December 15, 2025 – In a stunning display of domestic dominance, the Bollywood espionage thriller Dhurandhar has surged past the Rs 500 crore mark worldwide within its first 10 days, positioning itself as a formidable contender against the upcoming Hollywood blockbuster Avatar 3 at the Indian box office.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, known for his gritty storytelling, the film features Ranveer Singh in a riveting lead role as Hamza Ali Mazari, a covert operative who embeds himself in a criminal syndicate, grappling with ethical dilemmas amid high-stakes action sequences. The ensemble cast bolsters the narrative with powerhouse performances from Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal, contributing to its widespread appeal despite an A-rating that limits its audience to adults.
The movie’s rapid ascent includes shattering records, such as netting Rs 44.80 crore on its opening Sunday alone, fueled by positive word-of-mouth and intense marketing. However, it hasn’t escaped scrutiny, with critics and audiences debating its portrayal of terrorism and potential propagandistic elements, sparking conversations on social media and in film circles.
Industry analysts are now speculating on Dhurandhar‘s extended run, which could challenge Avatar 3‘s anticipated performance in India. James Cameron’s sci-fi sequel, the third installment in the groundbreaking franchise, has historically drawn massive crowds here, but the homegrown hit’s momentum might siphon viewers seeking adrenaline-pumping thrills over interstellar spectacle.
As collections continue to climb toward a projected Rs 1,000 crore milestone, Dhurandhar underscores Bollywood’s resilience in a market increasingly influenced by global releases. Film trade experts suggest that strategic release timing and cultural resonance could tip the scales, making this a clash worth watching in the coming weeks.
