Mumbai, October 20, 2025: The much-awaited Bollywood film Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, is ready to light up theatres this Diwali. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, this vampire comedy is part of Maddock Films’ hit horror-comedy universe, following films like Stree and Munjya. As the release date arrives, fans are excited, and advance bookings for the first day are showing a solid start.

Advance Booking Collections for Day 1
Thamma has collected around Rs 3.43 crore in advance bookings for its opening day across India, not counting blocked seats. This comes from over 1.21 lakh tickets sold for more than 12,000 shows. When blocked seats are added, the figure rises to about Rs 7.39 crore, a promising sign for a festive release.

The Hindi 2D version is leading with Rs 3.22 crore from around 1.15 lakh tickets. The Telugu version has added Rs 3.61 lakh, while premium formats like IMAX 2D and 4DX have brought in Rs 12 lakh and Rs 5.53 lakh, respectively. Major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru are driving the most bookings, with real occupancy around 4-10% in key areas.
While earlier reports mentioned slightly lower figures like Rs 3.09 crore for regular sales, the numbers have grown through the day. For a Diwali release, this is a bit slow to start, but experts believe walk-ins and positive word-of-mouth could boost it further.
Movie Budget and Production Details
Thamma is a big-budget film with a production cost of Rs 125 crore, excluding print and publicity expenses. With heavy VFX work for its vampire theme, the total budget is estimated at Rs 150 crore, making it the most expensive film from Maddock Films to date, surpassing even Stree 2.
The movie runs for about 2 hours and 30 minutes and has received a U/A certificate from the CBFC, making it suitable for families with some parental guidance.
Box Office Expectations and Challenges
Trade experts are optimistic about Thamma’s box office potential. One analyst predicts the first-day nett collection could range between Rs 28-32 crore, thanks to the festive season. With good reviews, it might hit Rs 120-140 crore in its first week.
However, the film faces competition. In the Hindi market, it’s clashing with Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa. In the south, films like Kantara: Chapter 1 are also releasing. Still, with the star power of Ayushmann and Rashmika and the fun horror-comedy vibe, Thamma has a strong shot at standing out.
Fans are buzzing about the fresh pairing and the spooky yet funny story. Let’s see how Thamma performs at the box office starting today!
