About Emperor vs Sarat Chandra
Emperor vs Sarat Chandra is set in pre-independence Bengal during British rule. The story follows writer Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay and the controversy surrounding his novel Pather Dabi, which presents revolutionary ideas and resistance against colonial rule.
The novel attracts the attention of British authorities, who consider its message a threat to their power. The film explores the resulting clash between freedom of expression and colonial control, while connecting the writer’s life with the revolutionary character Sabyasachi from his fiction. It shows how literature can inspire people to question injustice and fight for freedom.
