Our Review

Hum Angrezon Ke Zamane Ke Jailor Hai is a small-budget crime mystery thriller that attempts to tell a story of family secrets and a murder investigation. The film banks heavily on the emotional hook of it being veteran actor Asrani’s last cinematic appearance. While the premise of uncovering dark family secrets through a police investigation has potential, the execution appears to lack the tension, pacing and gripping moments required to hold audience attention in a thriller format.

The supporting cast tries to deliver, but the overall production quality and screenplay seem to fall short of creating any real impact or memorable sequences. From the box office point of view, Hum Angrezon Ke Zamane Ke Jailor Hai has delivered one of the weakest openings among recent Hindi releases. With very limited screen count, almost negligible advance bookings and poor occupancy on day one, the film is already struggling badly.

In today’s competitive market, even small films need strong content or aggressive marketing to survive the first weekend. Here, neither seems to be working in its favour. The emotional appeal of Asrani’s last film has not converted into ticket sales. Unless there is some unexpected positive word-of-mouth (which looks highly unlikely at this stage), the film is headed for a disastrous theatrical run.

It will most likely end up as a major flop and will have to rely completely on satellite and digital rights for any financial recovery. This release once again highlights how difficult it has become for small Hindi films without strong content or big-star backing to make any mark at the box office.
