The Minions are back causing their signature brand of cheerful chaos, but this time they’ve landed in 1920s Hollywood. In Minions & Monsters, the little yellow fellows dream of making their own monster movie and end up recruiting some very real (and very odd) creatures to help.
It’s a bright, fast-paced animated comedy that hit theatres on 1 July 2026, and families have been turning up in good numbers for the opening weekend. Early audience reactions from X, Instagram and BookMyShow pages have been mostly warm.
A lot of parents say their kids were laughing non-stop at the slapstick and goofy Minion moments. Many viewers, especially those who grew up with old movies, are enjoying the film’s affectionate nods to classic Hollywood and the way it celebrates the magic of going to the cinema.
The animation looks crisp and colourful, and the new characters voiced by Jesse Eisenberg and Trey Parker have been getting plenty of love for bringing fresh energy. That said, reactions aren’t completely one-sided. Some people feel the story stays pretty thin and the usual Minion gags start feeling repetitive after a while.
A few mentions of a slower first half and one or two subplots that don’t quite land have popped up. Even so, most folks seem to be walking out with smiles, calling it one of the better recent entries in the series. This is clearly made for families with young kids who already adore the Minions.
If you like light, undemanding animation that mixes pure silliness with a few clever film-world references, you’ll probably have fun. It works best on the big screen where the visuals and energy really pop.
If you’re looking for something with more depth or a tighter story, you might be happier waiting for it on streaming.
Final Verdict: Minions & Monsters delivers exactly what most people expect from the franchise — plenty of laughs, colourful chaos and a bit of heart — while adding a nice tribute to old Hollywood that gives it extra charm. It’s not the deepest animated film you’ll see this year, but it’s a cheerful, easy watch that should keep both kids and parents entertained. A solid family outing if you’re in the mood for something fun and familiar.
