Pallichattambi Movie Review

Pallichattambi, the latest film from director Dijo Jose Antony, hit theaters on April 15, 2026, just in time for the Vishu release. Starring Tovino Thomas in the lead role alongside Kayadu Lohar, this Malayalam period action drama is set against the turbulent political landscape of 1950s Kerala.

The story revolves around a carefree young man who is appointed by the local church to protect its interests and the Christian community during a time when the first communist government brings major changes and tensions. What starts as a simple job forces him to confront bigger ideological questions and fight for what he believes in. Without giving away too many details, it is a tale of personal transformation, community strength, and political awakening.

Tovino Thomas is undoubtedly the biggest strength of the film. He brings both charm and intensity to his character, handling the action sequences with ease and showing real emotional depth in the dramatic parts. The supporting cast, including veterans like Vijayaraghavan, Sudheer Karamana, and Baburaj, do a solid job too. Kayadu Lohar adds grace and presence in her important role.

On the technical side, the film has impressive scale. The production values are high, with grand sets, well-choreographed action, and striking visuals that capture the period setting effectively. Jakes Bejoy’s music stands out, especially some catchy and emotional songs that stay with you. The climax fight sequences are particularly thrilling and well-executed.

However, the movie struggles in its storytelling. The plot feels quite predictable and borrows heavily from similar films in the genre. The screenplay has too much explanation at times, which slows down the pace and reduces the emotional impact. It aims for the epic feel of movies like Kantara or KGF but does not quite achieve the same level of originality or strong connection with the audience.

Overall, Pallichattambi is an ambitious effort that entertains in parts thanks to Tovino’s star power and some strong action moments. But it falls short of becoming a memorable classic due to its familiar narrative and lack of subtlety.

My Rating: 2.5 out of 5

If you are a fan of Tovino Thomas or enjoy well-made action sequences in a historical setting, you may find it worth watching in theaters. For others, it could be a decent one-time watch once it becomes available on streaming platforms. The film shows clear effort and scale, yet the story does not fully match its grand ambitions.
