Our Review
Aatli Baatmi Futli is a Marathi comedy crime thriller where Sachin hides in a chawl room from cops, only to find a mad old man plotting his wife’s murder, leading to a trapped outsmarting game. Mohan Agashe, Rohini Hattangadi, and Siddharth Jadhav deliver seasoned performances, but the film feels amateurish and cartoonish with weak execution and unconvincing plot. Directed by Vishal P Gandhi, it has some humorous moments but lacks depth and polish. Theatre occupancy is low at 10-15% on Day 1 per early reports, with minimal social media buzz on X showing mixed reactions some appreciate the cast, but many call it disappointing. Okay for light crime comedy fans, but nothing memorable.
What Worked
- The unique setup of being stuck in one room builds real tension and keeps things focused.
- Powerhouse performers like Mohan Agashe as the mad old man and Rohini Hattangadi add class and depth.
- Blending thriller with bits of humor makes it stand out from straight scary films.
What Didn’t Work
- If the single location story feels too confined, it might get boring for some.
- Twists could come off as too predictable if you’ve seen similar locked room mysteries.
- New directors might have some rough edges in pacing based on the trailer.
