Index
The film opened with a very poor response across Telugu states and had almost no presence in other regions. It failed to create any significant buzz or advance bookings, resulting in one of the weakest openings for a mid-budget film in 2026.
Worldwide, Kotha Malupu had a negligible start with almost zero overseas collections. The film has struggled to find an audience and is performing very poorly at the box office. It is clearly heading towards a disaster verdict with almost no theatrical traction.

Our Review
Kotha Malupu is a romantic comedy-drama with suspense elements set in the beautiful Konaseema region. The film stars Akash Goparaju (son of singer Sunitha Upadrashta) and debutante Bhairavi Ardhya in lead roles. It revolves around a cousin bond that gradually turns into romance, mixed with family drama and mystery.
The trailer has been appreciated for its mix of humour, emotions and songs. Directed by Siva Vara Prasad K, the film aims to deliver a clean, family-friendly entertainer with a touch of suspense. Supporting comedy from Raghu Babu and others adds to the light-hearted tone. For audiences seeking a feel-good romantic story with some emotional depth and scenic visuals, it offers a decent option.
At the box office, Kotha Malupu has opened on a modest note on its first day. The film has managed to attract family audiences in Telugu states, particularly in smaller towns and centres where content-driven romantic dramas often perform steadily. While the opening is not very high due to competition from other releases, the initial response from its target audience has been positive.
The performance in the coming days will depend heavily on word-of-mouth. If the humour, songs and emotional connect work well with viewers, it could see improved collections over the weekend. Compared to other small and mid-scale Telugu releases, this opening provides a decent foundation. The overseas market remains limited. Overall, it has made a steady start and has the potential to grow if audience feedback remains favourable.
