Our Review
Room Boy is a dark thriller about a room boy and aspiring actor named Surya who gets involved in a murder case after a deadly party where seven people are killed. Likhit Surya plays the lead well, with Raksha Nimbargi and Yash Shetty adding to the suspense, but the story feels dragged in parts with predictable twists. It’s a bold try for Kannada cinema, but lacks strong writing to keep the thrill going. From social media on X, reviews are mixed, saying it’s disturbing but not scary enough, and theatre occupancy is low at 10-15% on opening days due to limited buzz and competition. Okay for mystery fans, but nothing memorable.
What Worked
- The thriller buildup with deception themes feels fresh and tense.
- Ashwin Hasan’s performance as the aspiring room boy carries the emotional weight.
- Music by Ronada Bakkesh amps up the suspense without overdoing it.
What Didn’t Work
- Some plot twists feel predictable, could’ve been more surprising.
- Pacing lags in the middle, making it drag a bit.
- Supporting characters aren’t fleshed out enough to make a big impact.
