About The Film
On a remote Scottish island, a brother and sister, Isla and Sandy, live largely cut off from the outside world. They survive by hunting seabirds, retelling the stories of their ancestors, and speaking with the mythical beings they believe share the island. They follow strict rules left behind by their late father: protect the island, let no outsider in, and survive.
Above all, they guard against the dreaded “incomers,” people from the mainland who they have always been told will ruin everything they hold dear. Their quiet routine is thrown off when Daniel, an awkward and socially uneasy council official, arrives with orders to move them off the island. He brings with him the strange ways of the mainland, from paperwork and laws to veganism and internet gadgets, and the siblings are determined to hold their ground.
As their long-held beliefs begin to be tested, each of them has to think about what home really means and whether there could be a life beyond the island. A dry, offbeat comedy with a touch of Scottish folklore, the film is a story about heritage, belonging, and who gets to decide where a person’s place in the world should be.
