About Athiradi and Future Prediction
Athiradi is a Malayalam-language action-comedy directed by debutant Arun Anirudhan. The story follows an energetic student named Samkutty (Basil Joseph) who revives a banned college festival, sparking a lively rivalry with Sreekuttan Vellayani (Tovino Thomas). Supported by a talented ensemble including Vineeth Sreenivasan, Riya Shibu, Zarin Shihab, Darshana Rajendran, and others, the film blends campus chaos, humour, and high-energy sequences set against a vibrant Trivandrum backdrop.
Early audience reactions from the paid premieres have been largely positive, with viewers appreciating the non-stop entertainment, Basil Joseph’s comic timing, and Tovino Thomas’s commanding screen presence. The film’s U/A certification and 2-hour-37-minute runtime make it suitable for family audiences and youth, aligning well with the ongoing summer holiday period.
Looking ahead, Athiradi holds strong potential for a successful first weekend if positive word-of-mouth sustains. With a budget of ₹40 crore, the film needs steady growth over the next few days to achieve a respectable box-office run. Sustained occupancy in Kerala and decent collections from other territories could help it emerge as a profitable venture in the coming weeks, provided it maintains momentum amid current competition.
