Karuppu, the much-awaited Tamil action drama starring Suriya in a dual role opposite Trisha Krishnan, released in theatres worldwide on Thursday, 14 May 2026. Directed by RJ Balaji in his feature debut, the film entered its theatrical run with encouraging advance bookings, particularly strong in Tamil Nadu. Pre-sales data reflected healthy interest from fans, supported by special early morning shows approved in the state.
Advance ticket sales on major platforms reached approximately ₹4.28 crore gross across India (without blocked seats), with over 2.64 lakh tickets sold. Tamil Nadu led the charts with significant contributions, while other southern markets showed steady traction. These numbers, combined with positive pre-release business exceeding ₹110 crore, positioned the film for a promising start.
Early estimates point to a respectable opening day in the double-digit range. Actual collections will depend on walk-in sales, occupancy throughout the day, and audience turnout, with live updates expected as more reports emerge from various territories. The strong fan base and promotional buzz provide a solid foundation for the Suriya starrer.

About Karuppu and Future Prediction
Karuppu tells the story of a lawyer who becomes possessed by a powerful deity and fights against social injustices affecting marginalised communities. Suriya essays dual roles as Saravanan and Karuppuswamy in this action drama that mixes fantasy, thriller, and meaningful commentary. The film marks the directorial debut of popular actor and comedian RJ Balaji, who has also co-written the screenplay.
The cast includes Trisha Krishnan in a prominent role, along with Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Yogi Babu, and others. Music by Sai Abhyankkar has already gained popularity through viral tracks that helped build pre-release excitement. Produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, the film features high production values and a runtime aimed at mass audiences.
Looking ahead, Karuppu’s prospects remain positive if it receives favourable word of mouth. The solid advance bookings and extended show timings offer a good platform for the opening weekend. Industry observers expect sustained interest could support a healthy theatrical run, especially with pre-release business reported above ₹110 crore. With a budget of ₹130 crore, the film is in a relatively comfortable position, and strong audience reception may help it deliver solid collections in the coming weeks.
