O Romeo 2026 Collection | Budget | OTT | Hit/Flop

O Romeo is a Hindi crime thriller movie, released on 13 February 2026 starring Shahid Kapoor (as Ustara, the razor-wielding gangster-informer) and Triptii Dimri (as Afsha, the woman seeking revenge), with pivotal supporting roles by Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Farida Jalal, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani and others. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj under his banner, the 2-hour-58-minute A-rated film is set in the gritty underworld of 1990s Bombay. It weaves a violent, poetic tale of love, betrayal, revenge and moral ambiguity where a sharp-edged killer and a determined woman collide in a world of crime, passion and sudden bloodshed.

Produced on a substantial scale with strong marketing, the movie targeted mature and mass audiences across Hindi-speaking regions with a wide pan-India release and no significant dubbed versions for other languages. The movie commenced its theatrical run with a solid but not explosive opening at the Indian box office, aided by Vishal Bhardwaj’s reputation and Shahid Kapoor’s star pull, though the dark, intense subject matter limited family turnout on Day 1. Collections stood at ₹8.25 crore net (gross around ₹10 crore) with decent occupancy in urban multiplexes and single-screens.

The weekend delivered strong growth as positive word-of-mouth for the stylish violence, performances and Bhardwaj’s signature poetry-in-blood style spread, but weekdays saw typical drops amid competition and the film’s heavy tone. Theatre occupancy remained steady in single-screens but softened in multiplexes. As of 23 March 2026 (Day 39), the film has recorded a lifetime India net of ₹92 crore (India gross ₹108 crore, worldwide gross ₹132 crore) as tracked by Sacnilk and cross-verified trade sources. This makes it a respectable performer that crossed the ₹100 crore worldwide mark comfortably, though it fell short of blockbuster expectations due to its intense content.

Our Review

Vishal Bhardwaj’s O Romeo is a sprawling, atmospheric gangster romance that feels like a throwback to the gritty underworld dramas of the late 2000s, yet it’s infused with a modern, slick energy.

The film excels in its world-building, transporting the audience into a stylized version of Mumbai where love and violence are two sides of the same coin. Shahid Kapoor delivers an intense, brooding performance that reminds us why he is Bhardwaj’s favorite muse; his “Romeo” is far from the Shakespearean archetype, manifesting instead as a volatile contract killer with a soul-piercing gaze.

Triptii Dimri matches him with a performance that is both fragile and fierce, though the screenplay occasionally fails to give their “obsessive love” the emotional depth it deserves. From a technical standpoint, the film is a masterclass in cinematography and music. The soundtrack, composed by Bhardwaj himself, is haunting and serves as the heartbeat of the narrative.

However, the film’s biggest hurdle is its massive runtime of nearly 180 minutes. The second half tends to indulge in subplots that stall the central tension, making the pace feel sluggish toward the climax. When compared to recent hits like Animal, O Romeo is more poetic and less “massy,” which might limit its appeal to a more niche, urban audience rather than the pan-India crowd.

The violence is stylized and brutal, keeping in line with the director’s signature “blood and verses” style. Looking at the box office trajectory, O Romeo has secured a fair start, but it isn’t out of the danger zone yet. With a budget of approximately ₹85 crore, the film needs to show extraordinary legs over the next week to achieve “Hit” status.

The Valentine’s Day spike will provide a necessary cushion, but the real test begins on Monday. If the film can maintain a steady hold without a 50% drop, it could emerge as a respectable success. Future predictions suggest a lifetime India net collection in the range of ₹60–75 crore, which would make it an “Average” to “Above Average” performer, depending on its international leg.
