Our Review of Timepass
Timepass is a Kannada dark comedy about seven strugglers chasing film dreams shooting a whole movie in one day without family backing, full of chaos and real Sandalwood vibes. Directed by K Chethan Jodidhar who also stars, with Rathsharam, Imran Pasha, and others in ensemble. Trailer shows funny highs and lows, improv laughs, but might feel raw without big twists.
What Worked
- Quirky dark comedy on film industry dreams looks fresh and funny.
- Ensemble cast’s chemistry shines in the trailer chaos.
- Relatable highs and lows that add heart to the laughs.
What Didn’t Work
- Might lean too much on insider jokes for non-film folks.
- Trailer hints at predictable struggles, needs twists.
- Not much on emotional depth shown yet.
Facts and Behind the Scenes
Timepass got its first look out in May 2025, promising a cheeky peek into the film world’s underbelly, and the trailer launch on October 7th had the cast hyping it up big. Director K. Chethan Jodidhar, who’s also in the film, drew from real stories of strugglers in Sandalwood, shooting in actual Bengaluru spots to keep it authentic. The team wrapped quickly to hit Diwali, focusing on improv for the comedy scenes to make them pop.
A cool nugget: The cast includes newbies like Vaisiri K Gowda alongside vets, and they did workshops mimicking real auditions some even got tips from industry pros. Not everyone knows the music event featured live jams, and the budget stayed low by using guerrilla style shoots. Delays from rains added some unplanned humor to the set, mirroring the movie’s theme of chaotic dreams.
