Purushaha opened its theatrical run on 22 May 2026 with an extremely modest debut that highlighted the challenges faced by small-budget family comedies in a crowded Tollywood market dominated by larger releases. As a light-hearted entertainer following three childhood friends navigating sudden divorces and domestic chaos through slapstick humour and emotional moments, the film relied on newcomer Pavan Kalyan Battula’s fresh appeal alongside the proven comic timing of Saptagiri and a capable supporting cast.
Index
Produced by Battula Koteswara Rao under Kalyan Productions and directed by Veeru Vulavala, it secured limited screens primarily in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with minimal pre-release buzz. Its opening performance stayed subdued compared to even mid-tier comedies, yet early audience reactions in Hyderabad and Vizag praised the clean humour, relatable family situations and upbeat music, creating a slim foundation for word-of-mouth among local family viewers seeking wholesome summer entertainment.
In the brief initial phase of its release, Purushaha showed marginal weekend growth but struggled to build significant momentum amid stiff competition and limited screen allocation. The narrative’s blend of situational comedy, heartfelt friendship and light social observation on modern relationships found modest resonance with regional audiences appreciative of rooted Telugu family dramas, yet broader crossover appeal remained negligible.
Overseas collections were virtually absent due to its exclusive Telugu-language format and targeted marketing. Its early trajectory reflects the realities for low-to-mid budget concept-driven comedies in contemporary South Indian cinema, positioning Purushaha as a sincere but commercially constrained addition to Tollywood’s summer slate that prioritises accessible entertainment and cultural familiarity over large-scale spectacle.

Our Review
Purushaha delivers a breezy and relatable family comedy that celebrates the importance of open communication in relationships while keeping the tone light and entertaining. Director Veeru Vulavala crafts a story that cleverly uses a family therapist’s personal crisis to highlight common marital misunderstandings, blending situational humour, flashbacks and heartfelt moments without resorting to vulgarity or over-the-top drama.
Saptagiri steals the show with his impeccable comic timing, while debutant Pavan Kalyan Battula brings natural charm and sincerity to the lead role. Vennela Kishore and the rest of the ensemble add consistent laughs and emotional warmth, making the film feel like a complete family entertainer that balances humour with a gentle message on trust and dialogue in modern marriages.
In terms of box office performance till date (as of 22 May 2026, after Day 1), Purushaha has recorded an extremely modest total India gross of ₹0.05 crore against a production budget of ₹6 crore. The collections reflect the typical challenges faced by small-budget Telugu comedies with limited screens and grassroots promotion, where Day 1 showed cautious turnout driven by curiosity around Saptagiri’s presence and the fresh cast.
Looking ahead, Purushaha is expected to find a stronger and more appreciative audience once it arrives on OTT platforms, where its clean humour, relatable relationship themes and feel-good family entertainment can reach a wider Telugu-speaking viewership at home. The positive early feedback on its light-hearted tone and message on communication positions it as a potential digital favourite, particularly among families seeking wholesome content.
Overall, this release reinforces the vitality of sincere filmmaking in Telugu cinema by demonstrating that modest resources paired with genuine passion and authentic family narratives can enrich the industry’s diverse offerings, providing memorable laughs and meaningful insights that endure beyond the theatrical window.
