Karthi’s Vaa Vaathiyaar hit theaters today on Pongal, but early numbers show a slow start. The film earned about ₹2.10 crore net in India on day 1, with estimates suggesting it could reach ₹5 crore by end of day. Occupancy hovered around 15-20% in Tamil Nadu, mainly from morning shows.
Competition from big releases like Chiranjeevi’s Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu hurt its momentum. That film raked in over ₹40 crore on its opening, pulling crowds away. Vaa Vaathiyaar saw decent advances in key areas, but walk-ins were low due to the clash.
Trends indicate word-of-mouth could help over the weekend. Positive buzz on Karthi’s performance and the quirky MGR theme might boost collections. Still, it needs strong holds to recover from this modest launch.

About Vaa Vaathiyaar and Future Prediction
Vaa Vaathiyaar tells the story of a die-hard MGR fan who raises his grandson to be like the legend. Karthi plays the lead, clashing values with his grandpa over legacy and personal choices. It’s a mix of comedy, action, and family drama, directed by Nalan Kumarasamy.
The film faced delays from legal issues and debts, finally releasing for Pongal. With a ₹40 crore budget, it relies on Karthi’s draw and Santhosh Narayanan’s music. Early reviews praise the humor but note pacing dips.
Future looks mixed—positive talk could push weekend earnings to ₹15-20 crore total. But heavy competition might cap it at ₹50-60 crore lifetime if buzz fades. Needs family crowds to break even.
