Index
Despite the presence of veteran actors and an emotional subject centred around a Carnatic musician battling Alzheimer’s, the film failed to attract audiences and registered one of the weakest openings among recent Tamil releases. It has shown almost no growth and is struggling to maintain any theatrical presence.
Worldwide, Charukesi has recorded very low collections. Almost all its earnings have come from a limited number of screens in Tamil Nadu. The film has witnessed a sharp drop after its opening and is currently underperforming significantly.

Our Review
Charukesi is a sincere and emotionally resonant Tamil musical drama that bravely tackles the difficult subject of Alzheimer’s disease through the lens of Carnatic music and family bonds. The story centers on a legendary musician whose fading memory brings long-buried family secrets and a fractured relationship with his son to the surface. Music becomes the only remaining language that connects them, offering moments of love, forgiveness and redemption.
Veteran actor Y.G. Mahendran delivers a powerful performance as the ailing musician, while Suhasini Maniratnam, Sathyaraj and the supporting cast add depth to the family dynamics. Director Suresh Krishna handles the sensitive theme with restraint and respect, allowing the emotional weight of the narrative and the beauty of classical music to shine without unnecessary melodrama.
In an industry often dominated by high-octane entertainers, Charukesi stands out as a meaningful, content-driven film that reminds audiences of the power of music and human connection. At the box office, Charukesi has had a very modest opening, collecting around ₹0.07 crore in India gross over the first four days since its 12 June 2026 release.
The low numbers are largely due to its limited release and niche appeal as a musical drama dealing with Alzheimer’s rather than mass-oriented entertainment. Despite the modest collections, early audience reactions have been positive among viewers who appreciate its emotional depth and soulful music.
Looking ahead, the film’s theatrical prospects remain limited, but its strong thematic content gives it good potential on OTT platforms where it can reach a wider audience seeking meaningful cinema. Compared to big commercial releases, Charukesi prioritises emotional authenticity and musical richness, making it a valuable addition to Tamil cinema’s growing space for content-driven stories that stay with the audience long after the credits roll.
