Our Review of Devi Chowdhurani
Devi Chowdhurani is a grand period drama that brings to life the story of India’s first female freedom fighter in 18th-century Bengal. Srabanti Chatterjee shines as Prafulla, evolving from a simple girl to the fierce Devi Chowdhurani with conviction. Prosenjit Chatterjee is impactful as mentor Bhavani Pathak.
The film’s stunning visuals, period-accurate sets, and Bickram Ghosh’s soulful score create an immersive experience. Directed by Subhrajit Mitra, it captures themes of empowerment and resistance, though some parts feel slow. A must watch for its historical value and strong performances.
What Worked
- Srabanti Chatterjee’s lead role as the fierce queen seems powerful and fresh.
- Subhrajit Mitra’s direction with grand sets and action fits the period epic nicely.

What Didn’t Work
- Buzz is good but competing with other Puja films might split the crowds.
