Kochi, January 7, 2026: The Malayalam film industry was buzzing last month when “Bha Bha Ba” released on December 18, 2025. Directed by newcomer Dhananjay Shankar, it marked Dileep’s big attempt at a mass action comeback after a long break. With Mohanlal in a cameo and promises of wild comedy and action, fans had high hopes. But sadly, the movie has turned out to be a big disappointment for many, earning mixed to poor reviews from critics and audiences alike.
The story is all about parallel universes and multiverse madness. Dileep plays multiple roles – a cop, a don, and more – jumping between worlds in a spoof-style adventure. It mixes elements from famous films like Ajith’s hits, with over-the-top action, comedy, and even some emotional bits. The plot starts with Dileep’s character getting pulled into different realities, facing villains and funny situations. Mohanlal pops up as a powerful figure, adding star power. But the screenplay jumps around too much, leaving viewers confused.
Critics have been harsh. One review called it “absolute gibberish,” saying Dileep’s mass comeback descends into chaotic storytelling that feels incoherent. Another said it’s like a bad riot – dense and suffocating, with even fun moments getting lost in the overindulgence. From the first half looking like a mediocre spoof, it loses balance in the second, trying too hard to fix things but ending up worse. IMDb users echoed this, calling it “absolutely horrible” with zero comedy and too many borrowed ideas from old films that don’t connect.
On social media, like Reddit and Facebook, opinions are split. Some fans enjoyed the “theatre high moments” and fast-paced scenes, saying if you like crazy masala spoofs, it’s fun in parts. One post described it as an “outrageous, crazy, sometimes fun and sometimes cringe” festival, best for those who don’t take it seriously. Public reactions on YouTube also highlight the hype around Mohanlal’s entry but complain about the weak script.
Positives? The film moves quickly, with some scenes landing well and giving space for laughs. Dileep tries hard in his roles, and the supporting cast, including Vineeth Sreenivasan and Saranya Ponvannan, add some charm. The music and action bits have energy, especially in the multiverse switches. Director Dhananjay shows promise – if he gets a better story, he could deliver big.
But negatives outweigh them. It’s overpacked with references, making it feel like a trash film overall. Neither Dileep nor Mohanlal can save it from being just an average, one-time watch – brutal and funny at times, but never living up to its promise. Rotten Tomatoes sums it up: fleeting entertainment buried under too much stuff.
Box office-wise, it opened decently thanks to holiday season and star power, but word-of-mouth might hurt it long-term. For Dileep fans, it’s a letdown after waiting for his return. If you’re into silly spoofs without much logic, give it a shot. Otherwise, skip.
Rating: 2.5/5.
