The Tamil romantic comedy-drama Youth, which marks the directorial debut of popular actor Ken Karunas, opened to a modest response on its first day at the Indian box office. Released on March 19, 2026 (Thursday), the film collected around ₹1.00 crore in India gross according to early estimates. This figure reflects steady interest among younger audiences in Tamil Nadu and select urban centres, supported by decent pre-sales and the film’s relatable coming-of-age theme.
Early estimates for Day 2 (Friday, March 20) indicate an encouraging uptick, with the movie projected to earn approximately ₹1.25 crore in India gross. This marks a growth of about 25 percent from the previous day, driven by positive word-of-mouth, catchy music, and evening show occupancy gains in key markets. While facing competition from larger releases, Youth is gradually building traction among students and families.
Trade observers note that the film’s fresh narrative and strong performances are helping it carve a niche. Weekend business will be critical, as sustained audience appreciation could lead to further growth in Tier-2 and Tier-3 centres. Overall, the trend remains promising for a debut directorial venture of this scale.

About Youth and Future Prediction
Youth is a Tamil-language coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama that follows the story of a 15-year-old boy named Praveen as he navigates the excitement and challenges of first love and adolescence. Directed by and starring Ken Karunas in the lead role, the film features a talented supporting cast including Anishma Anilkumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Devadarshini, and Priyanshi Yadav. The soundtrack, composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar, has already gained popularity, with tracks like “Mutta Kalakki” receiving praise for their youthful energy.
Early audience feedback and social media reactions have been largely positive, highlighting the film’s nostalgic school-life elements, honest performances, and light-hearted humour. Many viewers have appreciated how the movie captures the pressures and joys of growing up without relying on heavy drama, making it especially appealing to younger audiences and families.
Looking ahead, if the current word-of-mouth momentum continues over the weekend, Youth could witness a healthy jump in collections on Saturday and Sunday. Given its modest ₹7 crore budget, the film is well-positioned to turn profitable with a lifetime India net of ₹10-15 crore. Analysts remain optimistic about its steady run in smaller centres, where the youth connect remains strong.
