Our Review

Sunny Di Honey is a lighthearted, “popcorn” entertainer that manages to be charming despite its recycled plot points. The film’s biggest strength is the chemistry between the “Two Sunnys”—Biney Jaura and Honey Mattu. Jaura effectively portrays the shy, stuttering protagonist, while Mattu provides the high-energy comedic relief that keeps the second half from lagging.

Veteran actors B.N. Sharma and Rupinder Rupi do what they do best: provide a relatable, hilarious anchor for the family drama. However, the film often feels like it’s stuck in 2015. The “domineering father” trope and the specific beats of the love triangle feel quite dated in a year where Punjabi cinema is increasingly experimenting with more grounded narratives.

The heroine, Mugdhaa, is luminous on screen but is unfortunately given very little to do besides being the object of the leads’ affection. Technically, the film is bright and colorful, with cinematography by Param Sembhi that makes the urban settings pop, though the musical score is mostly forgettable. Commercially, Sunny Di Honey is struggling to make a dent.

Releasing against a major cop-action sequel like DSP Dev 2 was a risky move that hasn’t quite paid off at the box office. While it’s a decent “vibrant outing” for friends or a casual date, it lacks the “must-see” factor required to pull audiences away from the bigger Valentine’s releases.
