The plot centres on the theft of a priceless Nizam-era coin from the Hyderabad Museum, igniting a high-stakes chase involving criminals and authorities across cities, blending intrigue, alliances, and betrayals. As of 1 February 2026, 10:24 AM IST, the film has wrapped its opening day, posting an early estimate of ₹0.75 crore India gross for Day 1, primarily from urban centres in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where advance bookings contributed modestly.

Worldwide figures remain preliminary at ₹0.80 crore, with limited overseas traction reported so far.

Our Review
Zamana unfolds as a brisk crime thriller anchored by the audacious theft of a historical artifact, propelling a cross-city pursuit laden with suspense, shifting loyalties, and moral quandaries. Debutant director Bhaskar Jakkula constructs an engaging tale that merges heist mechanics with probing tension, led by Surya Srinivas’s portrayal of the opportunistic pilferer, complemented by Zaara Khan and Sanjeev Kumar in pivotal parts.
The film’s technical finesse, featuring Jagan Appam’s cinematography and M.R. Varma’s sharp editing, crafts a sleek viewing encounter, while Kesava Kiran’s compositions intensify the dramatic chases. Early critiques position it as a solid yet unremarkable remake attempt, commending the core concept and action-driven segments but highlighting a need for deeper character exploration.
Relative to recent Telugu crime narratives with newcomer ensembles and constrained budgets—like those emphasizing taut scripts and local ties over spectacle—Zamana follows a direct path centered on plot drive rather than emotional layers.
The undisclosed budget implies economical production, setting a favorable breakeven at roughly ₹10-15 crore gross, sturdy against a moderate debut if favourable responses build. Subsequent trajectory will pivot on evening crowds, weekend persistence in core Telugu areas, and natural amplification in a crowded release calendar. Strong endorsements could foster gradual expansion, akin to under-the-radar thrillers that accumulate via intrigue and showings despite low advances.
If the story’s grip weakens against rivals, it might end as a typical grosser. Altogether, Zamana supplies a capable genre piece that engages through its pursuit dynamics, enhancing Telugu cinema’s suspense offerings, its business fate reliant on ongoing cinema involvement in the near term.
