Our Review of On the Road
TBU
What Worked
- The stunning Ladakh locations add a wow factor, making the thriller feel epic.
- Swati Mehra and Rajesh Sharma’s chemistry looks tense and real from the promos.
- Unique road-trip setup brings a new twist to Telugu thrillers.
What Didn’t Work
- Might rely too much on the setting if the plot doesn’t have enough surprises.
- Supporting roles seem limited, focusing mostly on the main pair.
- Could feel slow in parts if the emotional bits drag.
Facts and Behind the Scenes
On the Road is helmed by Surya Lakkoju, who’s worked with Ram Gopal Varma before, and this is his take on a pure road-trip thriller something new for Indian cinema. The whole film was shot in Ladakh’s tough valleys, dealing with cold weather and high altitudes, which the team said added real grit to the scenes. RGV himself launched the first look poster and teaser months back, calling it a fresh idea, and most folks don’t know the story draws from real life ex relationship dramas but amps it up with the isolated trip vibe.
Another fun bit is that producers Surya Lakkoju and Rajesh Sharma kept the project low key till the teaser drop, focusing on natural shoots without big sets. Not many are aware that Rajesh Sharma pulls double duty as producer and actor, bringing his experience from other films to make the ex boyfriend role pop. The crew wrapped up quickly to hit the October release, and early talks say the Ladakh permits were a hassle but worth it for those breathtaking shots.
