Malumadi Budget & Collection | OTT | Hit/Flop

Malumadi is a Gujarati-language family drama directed by Milan Joshi and produced by Vikram Patolia and Kiran Khokhani under Sidhhant Motion Pictures. Released on 30 January 2026, the film stars Bharti Thakkar in a central role portraying a resilient mother, alongside Akash Pandya, Priyam Talaviya, Gurubhai Jethva, and others.

The narrative delicately explores themes of maternal sacrifice, familial bonds, cultural values, and societal challenges, presenting an emotional journey that resonates with universal experiences of love and perseverance. As of 1 February 2026, 10:53 AM IST, the film has concluded its opening day, with reported collections indicating a modest performance aligned with expectations for a regional family drama without extensive marketing.

Advance bookings were limited, contributing to a Day 1 India gross of ₹0.35 crore, primarily from urban centres in Gujarat such as Ahmedabad and Surat, where occupancy averaged 20-30%. Early estimates for Day 2 suggest a slight hold at ₹0.30 crore, pending full aggregation, as family audiences may support weekend growth. Worldwide figures remain close to domestic earnings, with negligible overseas contributions at this stage, reflecting the film’s niche positioning.

Our Review

Malumadi sensitively captures the essence of motherhood’s enduring strength, unfolding a narrative that pays homage to women’s quiet fortitude within family and cultural frameworks. Milan Joshi directs with a gentle touch, avoiding melodramatic excesses to focus on authentic emotional exchanges and societal reflections.

Bharti Thakkar shines in her portrayal of the central mother, conveying depth through subtle expressions, while Akash Pandya and the ensemble provide solid grounding to the interpersonal narratives. The film’s technical simplicity—relying on natural settings and a restrained score—complements its grounded tone, making it an accessible watch for those seeking heartfelt stories.

Early screenings emphasize the film’s ability to evoke empathy through relatable challenges, positioning it as a touching exploration of bonds that transcend generations. In contrast to recent Gujarati dramas that incorporate broader social commentary with commercial flair, Malumadi opts for intimacy, prioritizing character growth over plot twists, which may appeal to niche viewers but limit mass engagement.

Its modest scale and clean content create a foundation for organic spread, especially in regional circuits where family-oriented tales often gain traction via shared viewings. Looking ahead, the film’s viability will rest on weekend family turnout and local endorsements in a competitive environment.

Strong resonance could parallel understated hits that accumulate through emotional appeal; otherwise, it might achieve average returns. In summary, Malumadi stands as an earnest, value-centric contribution to Gujarati cinema, offering meaningful insights into perseverance and unity, with its box office path shaped by ongoing audience dynamics.
