Our Review of Lord Curzon Ki Haveli

Lord Curzon Ki Haveli kicks off with a dinner invite gone wrong, where four desi pals in the UK end up dealing with a dead body and secrets that pop out like jack in the box.

Arjun Mathur as the host Rohit keeps things tense, while Rasika Dugal’s Ira adds that sharp edge with her no nonsense vibe. The story tries to mix mystery with laughs, set in one spot like those old Hitchcock flicks, making you guess who’s hiding what.

The film has its moments where the dark humour lands, especially in the awkward chats about life abroad and old grudges. Paresh Pahuja and others chip in with solid bits, and the bilingual talk feels real for NRI folks. But it doesn’t always hit the suspense high, feeling more like a chatty play than a nail biter at times.

Overall, it’s a decent try for a debut director, good for a one time watch if you like quirky thrillers. Reviews are mixed, with some loving the cast but others saying it drags. If you’re up for something offbeat this weekend, it might click just don’t expect a blockbuster rush.

What Worked

  1. Rasika Dugal and Arjun Mathur’s strong acting keeps the mystery alive with real chemistry.
  2. The black comedy bits on desi life in UK hit home with clever digs.
  3. Hitchcock-style single location adds a cool, tense feel to the setup.

What Didn’t Work

  1. The story feels stretched at times, with slow pacing in the middle.
  2. Some twists come off as weak, not packing the punch needed.
  3. Supporting roles don’t get enough depth to shine fully.

Facts and Behind the Scenes

Lord Curzon Ki Haveli was shot entirely in Yorkshire, UK, over a quick schedule to keep the chamber drama vibe like Hitchcock’s Rope. Anshuman Jha, who directs and co-produces, pitched it at a film market in Singapore to snag funding, turning a simple idea into this bilingual thriller. Not many know it premiered as the closing film at the UK-Asian Film Festival 2024, getting buzz for its dark take on colonialism and immigrant life, with the cast improvising some Hindi-English lines for that natural flow.

Another fun fact is the censor board gave it an A rating, forcing cuts to some bold parts, but Jha fought to keep the essence. Most folks aren’t aware the mansion is a real haunted spot named after Lord Curzon, adding eerie realness to night shoots. The team bonded over UK weather woes, with Rasika Dugal calling it a passion project that explores hidden sides of desi expats.
