Sukhamano Sukhamann Collection | Budget | OTT | Hit/Flop

Sukhamano Sukhamann is a Malayalam fantasy comedy-drama released on 13 February 2026, starring Mathew Thomas, Devika Sanjay, and Jagadish. Directed by debutant Arunlal Ramachandran (the writer of Vettah), the film tells the whimsical story of Theo, a lonely young man who begins to see the “ghosts” of the deceased he transports in his ambulance.

The film opened as part of a crowded “Valentine’s Weekend” clash in Kerala, competing with regional films like Pennum Porattum and Spa, as well as the major Hindi release O Romeo. Despite the fantasy hook, it opened to a modest response, with average occupancy across Kerala sitting at 10–12%. On Day 1, the film collected approximately ₹0.10 crore net in India.

While it saw some traction in urban multiplexes (Kochi and Trivandrum), it faced a polarized critical reception—ranging from “heartwarming and soulful” to “amateurish and disjointed.” Worldwide, the opening day gross stands at ₹0.11 crore, with limited overseas screenings. As today is Saturday, February 14, early tracking suggests a slight uptick due to the Valentine’s Day crowd, but it remains a “word-of-mouth” dependent film.

Our Review

Sukhamano Sukhamann is a film that operates on a tender, magical-realist frequency that doesn’t always tune in correctly. The premise—a lonely man building a “family” out of the ghosts he encounters—is beautiful and reminiscent of quirky international indies. Mathew Thomas brings his trademark vulnerability to Theo, perfectly capturing the “mental” label the town cruelly gives him.

Jagadish, as the cemetery caretaker Iype, once again proves his late-career versatility, providing the film with its most grounded emotional moments. The music by Nipin Besent is a standout, acting as a “heartbeat” for the film and elevating the more melancholic scenes. However, the execution feels like a tug-of-war between two different movies.

One half is a soulful exploration of PTSD and isolation, while the other half descends into dated, soap-opera-style melodrama. The romance between Theo and Charu (Devika Sanjay) feels rushed and lacks the “spark” required to make their tragic arc resonate. While some critics have called it a “warm hug,” others have been harsher, labeling the writing “shoddy” and the humor “amateurish.”

Compared to recent high-concept Malayalam hits like Sarvam Maya, Sukhamano Sukhamann lacks the narrative sharpness needed to make its fantasy elements truly “stick.” Commercially, the film is in a precarious spot. With a ₹4.5 crore budget, an opening day of ₹10 lakh is significantly under par.

It is being overshadowed by more aggressive comedies and big-budget spectacles. While it might find a loving audience on OTT who appreciate its “gentle” nature, its theatrical run looks to be short-lived. It’s a film with a beautiful soul that unfortunately got lost in a messy screenplay.
