Adamya Movie Collection | Budget | OTT | Hit/Flop

Adamya (The Unbroken) is a Bengali political thriller and drama, released on 13 February 2026, starring Aryuun Ghosh and Senjuti Roy Mukherjee. Directed by Ranjan Ghosh and presented by the legendary Aparna Sen, the film is a bold, independent venture inspired by the poem Deshlai Kathi by Sukanta Bhattacharya.

The story follows 23-year-old Palash, who becomes a fugitive in the Sundarbans after a failed political assassination. Released as a “single-character” experimental film, it occupied a niche space during the Valentine’s weekend, recording a low initial occupancy of 4–7% across West Bengal. On Day 1, Adamya earned approximately ₹0.02 crore net in India.

As an “A” rated independent film with a heavy political theme, it did not target mass commercial numbers but rather focused on the festival circuit and art-house audience. Its gross collection stood at ₹0.02 crore, primarily coming from heritage theaters and select multiplexes in Kolkata. Today, Saturday, the film is maintaining its steady but low occupancy, as it is largely driven by critical acclaim rather than mainstream holiday trends.

Our Review

Adamya is a searing piece of “slow-cinema” that demands absolute attention. Director Ranjan Ghosh, under the mentorship of Aparna Sen, has crafted a film that feels less like a traditional thriller and more like a fever dream of political disillusionment. Aryuun Ghosh, who also served as the film’s production designer and fight choreographer, gives a tour-de-force performance.

As the fugitive Palash, he carries almost the entire 110-minute runtime on his shoulders, conveying a mix of raw terror and ideological stubbornness without relying on heavy dialogue. Technically, the film is a masterclass in using location as a character. The Sundarbans are captured not as a tourist destination, but as a treacherous, muddy labyrinth that reflects the protagonist’s internal state.

Arkaprabha Das’s cinematography is claustrophobic and gritty, while the sound design by Adeep Singh Manki uses the natural sounds of the delta to build a constant sense of dread. However, the film’s experimental “single-character” format and its “A” certificate for bold political content make it a difficult watch for a casual audience. It is intentionally slow and often ambiguous, which might frustrate those looking for a standard “cat-and-mouse” chase.

Commercially, Adamya was never meant to be a box-office juggernaut. Releasing it on Valentine’s Day was a choice that highlighted its “alternative” identity, though it inevitably suffered in theater counts compared to Mon Maaney Na.

This is a film meant for those who appreciate the legacy of Mrinal Sen or the more experimental works of Ritwik Ghatak. While it may struggle to find theatrical legs, it is certain to be a significant entry in the 2026 Indian festival circuit and a must-watch for fans of independent Bengali cinema.
